WE OWN NOTHING – BUT WE HAVE PLENTY OF IT.

Reality is Relative! What does Gino Bongulielmi, the owner of the Alpe, mean by this saying? Anyone who has met him understands: money and gold are nowhere to be found at Alpe San Romerio. But there are other treasures to be discovered here—peace, freedom, sustainability, the beauty of nature, and the infinite expanse beneath an ever-changing sky.

Over 36 years of hard work, the Bongulielmi family of Brusio has transformed this small alpine hut into a beloved refuge. Hikers, trekkers, and cyclists come together at Alpe San Romerio, making it a favorite stop along their journey. At the welcoming dining area, guests enjoy the warm hospitality of Susanna, Gino, and their team. Visitors from all over the world have already found their way to San Romerio, leaving with cherished memories of this powerful and energizing place. The pristine nature surrounding the refuge, the magnificent views, and a healthy, sustainable, and simple way of life leave a lasting impression on all who visit.

VOLUNTEERS & CIVILIAN SERVICE WORKERS

Daily life on an alpine pasture may seem romantic at first glance, but above all, it is hard work. Gino Bongulielmi and his partner Susanna are grateful for the support of their team and volunteers, who help them provide hospitality and service to guests during the summer months. Volunteers are warmly welcomed in exchange for room and board, with a minimum stay of two weeks.

We graze and manage the alpine pasture with nursing cows. We also take care of the pastures, meadows, livestock trails, forest, and mountain spring—a task that requires a great deal of work. Motivated young people in civilian service are welcome to assist us with these responsibilities. Unforgettable experiences in the mountains are guaranteed!
